“Sucessfully preparing engineering and surveying candidates
to pass their professional licensing examinations since 1973”

The National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCEES) has declared the following calculators to be allowed on their examinations for engineers and land surveyors at their NCEES Calculator Policy:

• All Casio fx-115 models. Any Casio calculator must contain fx-115 in its model name.

•The Hewlett Packard HP 33s and HP 35s models, but no others.

• All Texas Instruments TI-30X and TI-36X models. Any Texas Instruments calculator must contain either TI-30X or TI-36X in its model name.

Of these calculators the HP 35s model by Hewlett Packard is the strongest and allows extensive programming and equation capabilities.

The NCEES Calculator Policy goes on to state that only the models on the NCEES-approved list may be used on the examination. All other models are prohibited in the exam room. mportant features for examinees planning to use the HP 35s is that it:

  • Is permitted for use on the NCEES exams, SAT Reasoning Test, SAT Subject Tests in Mathematics Level 1 and Level 2, ACT Mathematics Test, PSAT/NMSQT, AP Chemistry/Physics, PLAN, and EXPLORE.

  • Has a large 2-line alpha numeric display with adjustable contrast, raised edges to protect the keys, and a robust library of built-in functions and constants.

  • Has a choice of RPN or algebraic entry-system logic—no other scientific calculator offers both.
Is completely programmable with keystroke or equation programming.

  • Has 30 KB of memory plus 800+ independent storage registers.

  • Can store an equation then use that same again to solve any variable using HP Solve or use 100 built-in functions.

  • Simplifies physics with 42 built-in physical constants, plus a complete library of unit conversions.

  • Has a compact size and protective raised edges that are designed for the mobile professional.

  • Saves time with an impressive array of programmable scientific functions.

  • Uses strong statistics functions for single and two-variable statistics, linear regression and more.

  • Uses base-n functions for binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal number calculation and conversion.

  • Performs operations on complex numbers, calculate logarithms, exponentials, inverse functions and more.

  • Takes advantage of a powerful fraction mode plus fraction-to-decimal conversion.

  THE BAD NEWS:

The HP 35s Scientific Calculator is only programmable by manually keying in programs and formulas. Unfortunately, for those who are not skilled at developing such programs and equations, this is a difficult and time-consuming process. Specialty programs such as our HP 35s calculators programmed with the LSS Miracle Software for the HP 35s calculator, the perfect calculator for taking the NCEES Land Surveyors Exam, contains 1,728 lines of program code and requires a full day for a skilled technician and trained technician to enter this program. At the present time we have a supply of these preprogrammed HP 35s calculators available for sale. See The LSS Miracle Software for the HP 35s Calculator for more complete information.

The LSS Miracle Software for the HP 35s Calculator makes the land surveyors examination seem easy for surveying mathematical problems. Consider that it performs the following functions:

• Adds and subtracts angles in HMS format.

• Converts Bearings to Azimuths and vice versa.

•Computes all elements of a horizontal curve when provided with most of two combinations of curve elements.

• Applies magnetic declinations to bearings or azimuths and displays the resultant bearings and azimuths.

• Computes the Present Value, Future Value and Mortgage Payment for a sum.

• Initiates point storage for up to 100 coordinate values.

•Traverses, Inverses, and performs Intersections (Azimuth/Azimuth, Distance/Distance, and  Distance/Azimuth) based on User input.

•  Recalls and displays coordinate value (North and East) by inputting a coordinate number.

• Stores a coordinate value (North and East) by inputting a coordinate number as well as the North    and East coordinate values.

• Computes all elements of a triangle when provided with three of the triangle elements (side, angle    or area).

• Computes all elements of a vertical curve.

• Computes the area in square feet and acres of a tract circumscribed by coordinate points.

• Contains an index to view the names and locations of the several programs in the LSS Surveying    Miracle Software.
